Bark Font Peels Its Letters Off a Pine

Pull a plate of bark off a pine and you have half a letter. The Bark Font builds every stroke from those reddish-brown plates, so the edges run ragged where the piece tore away from the trunk. Because pine bark grows in overlapping scales, each surface is a mosaic of small flakes rather than one skin. Then grey-green lichen patches sit on several of them. Meanwhile the inner faces show a paler, softer wood tone. Naturally the thickness varies enough to throw real shadows.

Flaking Scales and Lichen

Texture carries the whole design. The plates split along their own grain, since bark cracks rather than tears cleanly. Deep fissures run between the scales, so the shadows go almost black. Besides that, the colour shifts from rust to grey across a single piece. In addition, small fragments break off at the corners of some letters. Above all, that crumbling edge stops the set from looking like printed wood grain.

Foresters and Campsites Take to It Instantly

Outdoor brands use it without thinking. Nature reserves, hiking gear, wood-fired restaurants and conservation charities all suit it, because the material argues their case for them. Whisky and craft beer labels also borrow the same roughness. When a layout needs to smell of a forest, this alphabet manages it. Dark green and charcoal grounds flatter the rust tones best. The lichen and fissures need room, so give it a generous size.

What the Bark Font Download Holds

The bark arrives as you type, since one plain OTF holds it all. Separate PNG letters follow on transparent backgrounds, since a sign sometimes needs just one. Our Wooden Fonts collection covers planks, logs and twigs as well. For pale peeling strips rather than rough plates, the birch version comes off a very different tree. After all, Bark Font is the rugged one.
