Each capital is a dense colony of spiky spheres, smooth beads and fuzzy pods in mustard, plum, olive and coral, lit hard from above. Two dish-shaped panels and a run of icons come along. It suits science publishing, health and lab branding, documentaries, museum work and music covers.

Every letter is a colony, not a shape

Look at a single capital and you will count hundreds of separate bodies. Spiky spheres, smooth beads and fuzzy pods also pack together until the letter shape appears. Nothing is repeated on a grid, so each glyph has its own crowd. Larger forms sit at the joints, while tiny ones fill the gaps along the edges. Because the packing is that dense, the silhouette stays readable even at small sizes.

Mustard, plum and olive under a hard light

The palette, of course, runs through mustard, plum, olive, coral and dusty pink. A single hard light from above then picks out every spine and dimple. Shadows drop deep between the bodies, meanwhile, which is what gives the letters their bulk. On black the colours glow, though on grey they turn oddly botanical. Nothing here looks flat or printed.

Microbiome Font for science covers and lab branding

Science publishing is the obvious home for the Microbiome Font, of course. Below it shows up on an outdoor billboard, a tablet screen, a black book cover and a gallery wall. Besides that, health brands, lab startups, documentaries and museum exhibits all fit. Music covers use it well too, since the texture reads as strange rather than clinical. Give it a dark background, then plenty of scale.

Extras and file formats in the Microbiome Font

Two round dish-shaped panels come with the set too, packed with the same organisms. Besides those, there is an icon run: a thumbs-up, an eye, hands, a heart, arrows and a skull. The Microbiome Font itself is a normal OTF, so headlines are a matter of typing. Every character ships as a high-resolution PNG on a transparent background as well. For a mossier green version see the Virus Font, or else compare the coral-red Bacteria Font.
